Kunafa
Kunafa, for those of you who don't know it; is a traditional middle eastern very sweet dessert made of fine vermicelli pastry and cheese. it comes in a variety of ways most common are "rough" Kunafa and "fine" Kunafa. the best in my opinion is Rough one made with Nabulsi cheese.
For those of you who "claim" to know what Kunafa is, I say you don't ! unless you've had the rough Kunafa made by Al Baal (كنافة عالبال) !! it is made with real nabulsi cheese ! its the real thing !! If you like Kunafa, you will love the Rough Kunafa from Al Baal

Kong !
Kong's Toilet :) |
Kong platter |
Shrimp + lobster ravioli |
Black cod with miso glaze |
Veal chops with yuzu sauce |
Mashed potatoes |
Raspberry "party" |
Pierre herme two thousand leaves |
the roof |
Bland !
Apart from the restaurant's atmosphere and design, which is done by eccentric French architect Starck; every thing at Kong restaurant in Paris was just plain bland! Food, service; you name it! it just didn't cut the mustard!
Actually, on a second thought; the mashed potatoes was exceptional! really smooth!
but, if its a must; then lunch is probably the best time one might want to go, only to enjoy the sky line of Paris from the roof part of Kong (seen above) !

Peru !
trucha encebollada |
This was a pleasant un planned for lunch in San Fransisco's Peruvian restaurant Fresca on Fillmore Street. My wife and I noticed it while shopping on Fillmore and decided to try Peruvian cooking for the first time! I had the trucha encebollada (seen above) which is a skillet roasted rainbow trout topped with caramelized prawns, onions, tomatoes and cilantro. it was quite light and tangy which is good, but it wouldn't satisfy someone with a big appetite like me! prices were very reasonable.
What i really wanted to try was the salmon dish (seen below) which unfortunately was only offered for dinner!
salmón honey mustard glazed organic salmon, squid ink rice, andean corn, rocoto aioli, dill chimichuri. |

Mondrian Cake
Mondrian Cake |
The Mondrian Cake, inspired by the paintings of the dutch artist Piet Mondrian; not only looks good but surprisingly tastes very good! its only fitting that this cake is served at the Rooftop Coffee Bar of The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. $8.00 a slice is a bet pricey, but its well worth it! Coupled with a cup of double shots espresso, this wud be the perfect afternoon dessert! The funny thing is that as I was getting ready to start, a random guy out of no where stands by our table, and started snapping shots of the cake with his camera and just walked away!!

It is served in a tall glass with a straw, often with ground pistachio nuts sprinkled on top. this one though was the first Mango Lassi ever served to me in a clay jar! it was quite unique!

Amal is the Indian restaurant located on the 3rd floor @ Armani Dubai Hotel. they only serve dinner from 7-11, although the atmosphere of the place is very minimal modern and un-indian like! the food was very much Indian and contrasts quite well with the settings! make sure to book a table out on the balcony over looking the fountain! this chicken curry was not on the menu!

Dal makhani
Dal makhani |
Nan |
Royal Tandoor Restaurant in Qatar serves one of the better Dal Makhani and nan breads in the region! and by region i definitely don't mean to include India for obvious reasons!
"Dal makhani (Hindi: दाल माखनी) is a treasured staple food, originally from Punjab in India. This dish is a type of daal (boiled lentils or other dried legume/pulse) eaten in India (in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and the Bhojpuri area of Bihar). As well as with roti or rice, it is also commonly eaten with either naan or chapatis.
Dal Makhani is one of Punjabi cuisine's most characteristic signature dishes, and is high in protein--an important attribute in primarily vegetarian cultures. Traditionally this dal is cooked on low flame, for hours, on charcoal, which gives it a rich creamy texture. When cooked at home today, more moderate amounts of cream or butter are often used. When prepared in restaurants in India, the United Kingdom or United States, it is cooked slowly on low heat and usually has a large amount of cream and/or butter added." (Wikipedia)
Cheese Sandwich - Raclette
Raclette Melting |
Raclette Sandwich |
I found this guy making these sandwiches on a rainy day in london, it made all the difference! :)
"Raclette is a semi-firm, cow's milk cheese - most commonly used for melting. Raclette is also a dish indigenous to parts of Switzerland and the Savoie region of France. The Raclette cheese round is heated, either in front of a fire or by a special machine, then scraped onto diners' plates; the term raclette derives from the French word racler, meaning "to scrape". Traditionally, it is accompanied by small firm potatoes (Bintje, Charlotte or Raclette varieties), gherkins, pickeled onions, and dried meat.
A modern way of serving raclette involves an electric table-top grill with small pans, known as coupelles, to heat slices of raclette cheese in. Generally the grill is surmounted by a hot plate or griddle". (wikipedia)
